A McDonald’s restaurant will open Dec. 7 in Jefferson if construction goes as planned.
Ground was broken Aug. 10 in the 400 block of N. Elm St, at the former site of Hastings Funeral Home.
Franchise owner is John Jo (pictured, right), doing business as Jo Industries. The Jefferson location is Jo’s 11th in Iowa, with other McDonald’s located in Fort Dodge (two), Algona, Webster City, Denison, Winterset, Creston, Story City, and Osceola, and a sale pending of the Carroll location.
According to Jo, Jefferson was chosen by the McDonald’s corporation as a location based on demographics. The company has recently decreased its population requirement.
Cass Padgett, an East Greene graduate, will supervise the locations in Jefferson, Story City and Carroll. She and her husband Dylan have purchased a home south of Jefferson, she said, adding that she’s very happy to be back in the area.

At the groundbreaking, which was attended by several persons at various management levels of Jo Industries, Jefferson city officials, and board members and staff of Jefferson Matters and Greene County Development Corporation, Jo called the Jefferson McDonald’s “an investment in the city and the people who live and work here.”
